(PharmaNewsWire.Com, January 03, 2017 ) Cerebral and tissue oximeters help physicians obtain non-invasive, continuous measures of cerebral oxygenation levels in the cerebral tissues. These near-infrared spectroscopy technology-based devices consist of an oximeter probe connected to a cerebral oximeter monitor via a cable. The oximeter probe is placed on the forehead, at an area with the least amount of hair. The oximeter also consists of a light detector and a fiber-optic light source. The device calculates the oxygen levels in the brain based on the difference between the amount of light sent and received by the probe. The values obtained are displayed on the screen of the monitor and calculated as percentage.
